Description
Essay titled, "The Sikhs of British Columbia" written by George H. Lowes in 1952, at the University of British Columbia. The essay endeavors to place the contemporary story of the Sikhs into historical perspectives, by first delving into the Indian history of the religion, then further their origin in British Columbia by highlighting their struggles for the franchise, related political freedom and less stringent immigration regulations, including the Komagata Maru tragedy. The last section of the essay is dedicated to exploring the sociological history of Sikhs in British Columbia through a statistical presentation, followed by the writer's conclusion.
