Description
Canadian Society for Asian Studies Newsletter titled, "Focus", published in November, 1977. The newsletter highlights an article titled, "Indian Community and Cultural Associations in Ottawa" written by Jaya Subramanian. The article outlines the history of the establishment of associations between India and Canada followed by a timeline of the formation of these associations, namely, the India-Canada Association, India-Canada Association Charitable Trust, Deshantri (the association of Bengalis resident in Ottawa-Hull), the Ottawa Sikh Society, the Malayalee Association, the South India Cultural Association, the Indo-Canadian Christian fellowship, the India Students Association of Ottawa University, Carleton University Indo-Canadian Club and the National Association of Canadians of Indian Origin. Also includes articles on the summer study abroad programs offered by the Institute of International Education and a brief description of an upcoming event called, "ANJALI" showcasing Indian classical dance performed by Anne-Marie Gaston and a critique of the book, "Introduction to Islamic Civilization" provided by Baha Abu-Laban, University of Alberta, Edmonton.
