Description
Event brochure for bharatnatyam and odissi, classical dances of India, presented by Friends of India Society at the Playhouse Theatre on Saturday, October 1st, 1977. The performing artists are Menaka Thakkar, a renowned young dancer of India; Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, playing Pakhavaj, a Padmashree reciepient with triple distinction as a dancer, musician and choreographer; Guru Nana Kasar, playing Nattuvangam, one of the foremost teachers and nattuvanars (dance conductors) in the bharatnatyam style; T.K. Ramakrishnan, playing mridangam, a recipient of the President's Award for his excellence in the art of mridangam (double-headed South Indian drum); and Meera Seshadri, a leading vocalist. The brochure also includes event schedule details along with a word from sponsors.
