Description
Personal account titled, "Experiences of an Immigrant Youth", written by Tania Das Gupta at the University of Toronto in September, 1978, and collected by Multicultural Resources Project in 1979. The essays outlines the author's personal experience being an immigrant student in a Canadian school and describes her struggles with being alienated, experiencing racist and ignorant comments, cultural shock and ethnocentric textbooks. The essay suggests radical changes in curriculum, internationalization of subjects, introduction of compulsory International Studies courses, immigrant-sensitive teacher training and on-campus counseling services as some of the solutions to improve the immigrant youth experience in Canada.
