Description
Handwritten index cards created by Dr. Norman Buchignani and Dr. Doreen Indra as part of the original archival work carried out for writing history of South Asians in Canada, Continuous Journey (1985). The content majorly surrounds the Indian National Liberation Movement and the Ghadar movement's efforts for Indian independence from 1905 to 1917, key figures involved, events, and international relations. The text reads: Sinha, P.B. 1975. Indian National Liberation Movement and (1905-1917). New Delhi Sterling Publishers. Suri (1968:61), Harnam Singh of Hoshiarpur came to Singapore from Canada. Ghadar movement officers at beginning: Sohan Singh Bhakna (president), H.D. (general secretary), Kesar Singh Thathgarh (vice president), Kashi Ram (treasurer), from SSB's Lahore jail memoirs (Josh 77:161), Hindustani Association of Pacific Coast formed in July, 1912, with Sohan Singh Bhakna as president, G.D. Kumar as general secretary and Kashi Ram as treasurer (Josh 77:158). The London deputation moved in London in April, 1913. This is pre-Ghadar. Sohan Singh Bhakna claimed to give the Komagata Maru 100 pistols in Yokohama on August 16th, 1914 (Josh 77:152). Nand Singh Sirha was sent in the London contingent because Jawala Singh in the U.S. wanted some American input. Balwant Singh and Narion[?] were the others. Sohan Lal Pathak was in S.F. late 1913 (Josh 77:161). Satnagar Singh and Shan Singh sent to Br. Hondmas in 1908 (Josh 77:80). On 3rd October, 1909, Sikhs in Vancouver Temple swear never to wear their buttons, war medals again. Garib Singh was in China during Boxer Rebellion. Teja Singh claimed that his Vancouver work resulted in his being expelled from Downing College, Cambridge (Josh 82-3).
