Description
Clips from "A Time to Rise" (1981). The full film produced and directed by Anand Patwardhan and Jim Monro and released by the National Film Board of Canada documents the struggle to form Canada's first farmworkers' union, filmed over the course of two years. Clips show workers and their children rising early in the morning to board buses which take them to farms in the Fraser Valley. Workers perform comedic skits during CFU conferences and meetings. Striking CFU workers march on a road alongside a farmer's field and use bullhorns to shout slogans of support; well-known CFU activist Pritam Kaur emerges from the fields, shouting victoriously. Used and shared with express permission of Anad Patwardhan and Jim Munro. Anand Patwardhan, “Excerpts from A Time to Rise”, 1981. (video). https://vimeo.com/99420077
